Work on university hospital on track despite heavy rain

11th March 2013

Sunshine Coast Daily

DESPITE heavy rainfall of more than 400mm recorded on the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) construction site, Lend Lease progressed work during February.

Work on the new site access - Gate 2 - on to Kawana Way will begin in early March to form the exit from the main construction site.

Lend Lease Project Director - SCUH, Mark Buckle said signs would be erected in three positions along Kawana Way.

"The multiple access points to the site are really important as construction ramps up, but we know how important safe access and egress off Kawana Way is," he said.

Piling on the multi-deck car park has also commenced and will take about three weeks.  The car park is located next to Ramsay Health Care's co-located private hospital.

Lend Lease project director  for SCUH, Mark Buckle, said that noise monitoring measures would be in place during piling.

"We will be monitoring the noise levels to ensure that the piling does not exceed normal and acceptable levels for this type of construction activity," he said.

Further progress will be made on site earthworks, with fill taken away from certain areas, and others being raised, specifically the area on which the main hospital building will be built.
